When Character Mingles With Charisma By Iyke Nwambie
As you forge ahead in this glorious journey of personal advancement, you must decide ahead of time to travel light. You must form the habit of decongesting your mental baggage of every excess luggage. You must find that meeting point where character mingles with charisma.
It is worth noting that as laudable as charisma is in the school of advancement when it lacks character, it becomes an insipid thing. It lacks that flavor that creates an aroma of acceptance amongst others.
That is why when a son catches his father cheating on his mother, that father loses some form of acceptance in the mind of that son. When a daughter sees her mother talk down on her father before a third party, that daughter gets confused about how a husband should be treated. When a politician pilfers from the common purse that he or she was meant to protect, it puts a big question mark of credibility and acceptance in the mind of the electorates. When a student forms the habit of cheating to pass his or her examinations, that student begins to lack that sense of dignity that is released on the platform of dutiful diligence. When a pastor abuses his or her exalted office on the whims of filthy lucre, it causes his congregants to wonder if the word of God really works. When young boys and girls engage in abusing their bodies early on in life through the consumption of drugs, they get confused about some fundamentals of life. When a businessperson is noted for telling copious lies even his or her best truths will be questioned by keen listeners. When a professional is noted for being proud and arrogant at the workplace, even his or her colleagues will become extra-critical of his or her works.
My dear reader, the need to travel light in the journey of advancement was emphasized when Paul the beloved, apostle to the Gentiles wrote:
"Therefore seeing we also are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily ensnare us" Then he adds: "...and let us run with patience the race that is set before us" (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Kindly note that the race that is set before us is the race of advancement, success, progress, and growth. And just like every runner gains speed when he or she dislodges himself or herself of the excess weights of life, you must dare to take inventory of those excesses on a day-to-day basis so as to cause the righteous nature of God (2 Corinthians 5:21) that is already glowing within your inner-man to radiate it's beauty in you and around you.
While we are not under obligation to live up to the expectations of other people, we are certainly under a joyful mandate to live like Kings and Priests whose words and acts are to be emulated, admired and appreciated by others.
The ability to dwell in dominion over the excess baggage of life was amplified by Paul with these words: "For sin shall not have dominion over you..." (Romans 6:14). That simply means that we can exercise that choice of allowing our charisma to be mingled with character. We can depend on the enabling grace of God that comes through knowledge to de-odorize the hates, fears, selfishness and worries in our environment with the agape love of God (Romans 5:5); and the God-kind-of-faith (Romans 12:3); that are constantly working in our hearts. For when charisma mingles with character, you advance to that place of joy, stability and acceptance that money cannot buy.
Finally, let these words from Warren Buffett, considered the greatest investor in the whole world, play on your mind:
"Somebody once said that in looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you. You think about it; it’s true. If you hire somebody without [integrity], you really want them to be dumb and lazy.”
But the good news is that you are loaded with the ability of God in you, you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, you are the righteous child of a righteous God. And never, ever forget that the seed of something special is in you. The seed of advancement is in you. And that seed is growing day-by-day. #KeepAdvancing.
